Tutorial article on terahertz substrateless silicon integration platforms

 
 

GOTL researchers publish a comprehensive tutorial on general-purpose dielectric waveguides for high frequencies in APL Photonics. The terahertz range is in dire need of a standardized integration platform that is efficient, compact, physically robust, cost-effective, and versatile. This article shows the way forward, strongly arguing that substrateless all-silicon waveguides are the best option. The article also describes the history of the development of dielectric waveguide technology for the terahertz range, as well as providing an overview of the history, and a thorough and detailed review of functional devices that have been developed for this platform. The paper is a valuable resource that will support the future development of terahertz integrated technology and passive functional devices.
