This Master’s degree, organized by the “Gregorio Peces-Barba” Human Rights Institute, offers specialized and advanced education in the field of human rights with an academic and research orientation and focus.
This Master’s program provides an education on the basic aspects of human rights, in addition to specialization in different fields where human rights are studied.
The student in this program will acquire knowledge of general theory about human rights and research methodology, international human rights law, constitutional law and jurisdictional protection of the rights, and contemporary challenges facing human rights. Accordingly, students are trained and prepared to carry out teaching and research in this field, which also enables them to participate in non-governmental organizations, national and international agencies that defend and promote human rights and human rights consultancies.

Requirements
Course access is aligned with the terms of the Royal Decree 822/2021 of 28 September 2021.
Course entry requirements are an official Spanish university degree or another qualification from a higher educational institute in another member state of the European Higher Education Area, provided that it is of sufficient level to study for a master's degree in the country of issue.
Graduates of educational systems outside the European Area of Higher Education may also access the course without any need to validate their qualifications, provided that the University is able to attest that their level of education is equivalent to the official Spanish university qualifications and that they are qualified to access postgraduate studies in their own country.
Admission criteria
Admission will depend on a selection process for all the candidates who comply with the legally established entry requirements. The selection process will take into account the fact that students are able to demonstrate sufficient guarantees of being able to successfully complete the course based on their curriculum, research interests and personal ability. For this purpose, in addition to evaluation of the documentation submitted, an essential prerequisite of the admissions procedure will be a personal interview either in person or through video conference.
The master's admission procedure will use the following scale to assess the merits of candidates:
ADMISSION CRITERIA WEIGHTING 40% Academic record A+, 10-9.5 points or the equivalent 4 points A, 9-8,5 points or the equivalent 3 points B, 8-7 points or the equivalent 2 points C, 6-5 points or the equivalent 1 point 30% Previous activity Academic or professional experience relating to human rights 3 points Member of an NGO or related associations 2 points Recent graduates without professional experience but who have been involved in secondary activities relating to human rights 1,5 points Fresh graduate with no experience 1 point 25% Courses on fundamental human rights Knowledge and experience of a subject or theme relating to human rights 2,5 points Expert or specialist course on a theme relating to human rights 2 points More than 5 courses in themes relating to human rights 1,5 points Less than 5 courses in themes relating to human rights 1 point 5% Others (mainly languages) In the case of disabled students with specific educational needs, the appropriate support and advisory services will assess the need for possible curricular adaptations, itineraries or alternative studies.

students with foreign university degrees
Once admitted to the Master’s program, students holding a university degree from a higher education institution outside the EHEA must provide the diploma, legalized through diplomatic procedures or by The Hague Apostille, for enrollment. They must also submit their transcript of records, including the grade point average, duly legalized.

If needed, documents must be accompanied by an official sworn translation into Spanish.

- You may enrol on the master’s degree after completing the admission process and receiving formal confirmation of your acceptance.
- When performing the enrolment you can choose between Full-time enrolment or Part-time enrolment.
- The email address provided upon enrolment will be used for formal communications; students are therefore kindly requested to check their mail regularly.
- Pursuant to the regulations of the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½, a student failing to pay any part of the fees will not be admitted and the enrolment process will be terminated. In cases of cancellation of enrolment due to non-payment, the University may demand the payment of the pending amounts for enrolment in previous academic courses as a prior condition of enrolment.
No diploma or certificate will be issued if a student has any outstanding payments.

The Carlos III University of Madrid announces 4 full scholarships to study the Master in Advanced Human Rights Studies in the academic year 2025/2026, which gives access to doctoral programs of the UC3M.
- The full scholarships will include the prices corresponding to the ECTS of the first registration of the complete course, as well as an allowance of €10,000.
To apply for the scholarship it is necessary to have formalized the application for admission to the master's program.
Two periods are established for the submission of applications:
- Ordinary period: from the day following the publication of this call on the University's website, until March 31, 2025.
- Extraordinary period (for programs with vacancies): from April 10 to May 31, 2025.
