The is a full-time, one-year program (60 ECTS) that provides students with a deep understanding of the main tools of modern quantitative economics. It is designed for graduates in economics, mathematics, and engineering, as well as for graduates in other social sciences who are interested in rigorous analysis within an international environment. During the program, students take six mandatory courses in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and Econometrics. Additionally, students develop a master’s thesis under the supervision of a faculty member and choose three elective courses on topics related to their professional interests.

The program prepares students for careers in government agencies, international organizations, and the private sector. In recent years, our students have been placed in leading financial institutions, consulting firms (e.g., BBVA Research, KPMG, Ernst & Young, Afi), and government agencies and ministries (e.g., the European Central Bank, the Bank of Spain, regulators, and treasuries). The elective courses support students in building the necessary skills. Those interested in consulting and regulatory work can, for example, take electives in theoretical and empirical IO. Or, if your interest is in data analysis, you can learn the necessary skills in Microeconometrics and Machine Learning.

The Master’s also serves as a first step for students who subsequently plan to pursue a research career by enrolling in a Ph.D. program in economics. To that end, students have the option to take Ph.D.-level courses in Mathematics, Applied Microeconomics, and Macroeconomics. In recent years, our students have been placed in top Ph.D. programs in Economics (e.g., the University of Minnesota, University College London, and the European University Institute, among others).

    International Complement

Qualified students could apply for financial support by the Erasmus Program.

At the end of the regular master program, students may opt to spend a placement period of 3-6 months in another European school studying complementary disciplines, such as Marketing, Finance, Management, Information Systems or Accountancy, or just deepen into Economics.

Having the opportunity to go to another European university within an international program allows the students to complement their training, in addition to having the experience of living in a different country, as well as in a different university environment.

Students receive formal recognition for their academic study period abroad in the transcript of records and in the degree certificate.

Currently, the University has exchange agreements at Master level in the area of Economics and Business Administration with the following universities:
